shine a light

Today as I was walking home from Mr. Bloodbath's house off of Echo Park Ave, I took a little back road shortcut to my house. As I was approaching my street on Lemoyne, I stumbled on this wonderful glass structure built in from of this house...the whole span of the front yard. hanging above a gate. As I stood there, thrilled to see something beautiful and handcrafted right up my street, I took a picture on my phone. That is when I met Randy. Randy said "do you like my home?", to I which I eagerly replied "Yes, I do, very much". He then went on to explain, holding an open bag of freshly vendored fruit, how each of this beautiful glass drops were filled with water and when the sun hits that water, the glass orbs illuminate as if they have a lightbulb living inside of them. He explain how the light refracts and turns the image of the sun around, making the sun look like it is setting through the glass, as it's really rising. I was facinated not only by the science behind this art but the passion in which he was speaking about it. It was his baby, his beauty that he gets to experience everyday. Every sunrise and sunset  for him is unavoidably brillant.
He ran inside to get me some magnets with his website on them so I could check out more of his work.
I was starting to say goodbye when Randy asked me if I was in the arts. I replied with:
"Yes, I am, but more by hobby than by trade unfortunately".
"That's okay, me too.....It really makes life worth living, doesn't it?"
"Yes. Absolutely."

I told Randy it was great to meet him and to have a "good one" as I started to walk toward my street again.

It totally made my weekend. I love my neighborhood so much. I love being home.

Can't save and post photos but look at his site and let's go talk a walk there sometime

back in action

So I'm finally home and have been for a few days. I feel like catching up but I also feel like that's all I've been doing for the last few days is just filling everyone in on everything, repeating myself over and over. But it's okay. I think I've finally taken control of my jet-lag a bit which is good.

I got home friday and tried to take a nap but couldn't fall asleep because I was so anxious to see Ryan and give him a big hug. We had dinner at my house and talked about uncomfortable things and he went home but we made a plan to paint my room on Sunday.
Saturday night, we had a party at Erin's, a welcome home party and it was  a lot of fun and suer overwhelming to see people I haven't seen in so long. I felt like I had to spread myself pretty thin to make sure I was spending enough time with everyone who came and I think I failed but I also think everyone had fun in the end.
Sunday Ryan and I went to home depot to get everything to paint my room and my dresser. I chose purple for my room and I don't know why. I went in there thinking about something pastel-y and green and I left with the most honest color of purple you could think of. I dig it. We ran out of paint so the tops of the walls are still a little rough. But I'm happy I did it. I feels like my room again but even more fresh. I just needed it to feel fresher and it does now so I'm happy.
It sort of feels like I haven't skipped a beat here. I'm waiting for the reverse culture shock to kick in and it hasn't yet. I feel like I will only share what people ask or want to know about my trip. I'm not sure that I will go into without a bit of curiosity and even then, there's so much of it that I don't think anyone will understand which makes me question if I should just omit those things or explain them the best I can with hopes that people will even try to understand or relate, but it's difficult. Unless you've lived abroad, you can't really understand what it's like. I get that now.
But I already feel different in a good way, a way that I hope doesn't pass even though it might. I just feel a bit older and wiser and ambitious. I feel ready and capable of doing things like I could do anything. It's empowering for sure but I hope it shows in my actions.

I'm so tired, it feels so good. It feels good to know that I won't toss and turn at all tonight, I will just close my computer and be asleep. How wonderful.
